Warehouse 3D photometric model – calculating light levels

Here are the main reasons you want / need to change out your facilities’ lighting to LED:

1: You’re wasting money with old, inefficient lighting that consumes more energy than it needs to, which is increasing your utility bill. Aside from wasting energy, non LED lights don’t last nearly as long as LED and you’re probably spending a lot maintaining them (or you’re not maintaining them and it’s getting darker and darker).

  • With an ROI usually below 3 years, a high NPV and IRR, and plenty of off-balance sheet financing options (“lighting as a service” offerings) there are few financial excuses for not upgrading to LED

2: Your warehouse is probably under-lit and does not meet industry standards for light levels (measured in foot-candles, FC). We’ve even seen some that are dangerously under-lit and are below what OSHA has released as bare minimum light levels (5 FC if you’re wondering).

  • After upgrading over 350 warehouses across the country, we have found that the majority COO’s and Facility Managers know they have poor and/or dangerous light levels but have never been able to justify the cost to do anything about it. With dropping LED prices and rising electricity rates, they can use the energy cost savings to finally convince the CFO/CEO it’s time to do something.

If your facility doesn’t meet the below standards: do something about it (we can help determine if you are meeting them or not). Industry standard is 20 FC AVG in the aisles and 30 FC AVG on the docks.

3: Your CEO has committed to reducing energy consumption because Wal-Mart has climate goals and now you are being asked to “do something”.

  • Converting to energy efficient LED is the single biggest thing you can do to reduce your warehouse’s carbon footprint (second biggest if it’s a refrigerated warehouse).
